Basra Gateway Terminal

Welcome to Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), Iraq’s premier container and multi-purpose cargo handling facility at the port of Umm Qasr. Operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), the leading international terminal operator, BGT provides a modern new gateway to Iraq with a service ethic based firmly on meeting shipping line and cargo shipper needs, and an investment programme of over USD100 million geared to consolidating and expanding this commitment.

Investment spans the upgrade of Berth 20, the existing container handling facility and a major Expansion Project that in the first phase will deliver 200 metres of new container quay providing an additional 300,000TEU capacity per annum. Specialised roll-on roll-off capacity is available at Berth 21.

The investment programme is designed to complement the increasing emphasis on the use of the southern port of Umm Qasr, resulting in growing trade flows of container, general and project cargo traffic as well as aid cargoes, and the general requirement of users for congestion-free access to terminal facilities operated in accordance with best practice internationally.

BGT’s customer driven focus is additionally supported by the progressive roll-out of IT systems, a highly experienced management team and a professionally trained workforce.
